iOS Versions

The iOS is a type of operating system that usually runs on the iPhone, iPad, and iPad touch. The iOS operating system is developed by Apple Inc. You can find this core software downloaded and installed in every Apple device for running and supporting various other apps on the devices. The iOS functions in the same manner to the iPhones as the Windows act like to the PC or the Mac OS X to the Mac desktops.

iOS had received no official name unless the iPhone SDK (software development kit) was released officially on 6th March 2008. Prior to that, the marketing branch of Apple simply claimed that iPhone was running a version of the Mac OS X that was specially designed for iPhone. At the time of introduction, iOS was named as iPhone OS. Later it was given the official name as iOS on 7th June 2010. This renaming came along with the introduction of the iPad. Apple Inc had licensed the “iOS” trademark from the tech giant Cisco Systems. Since its advent, several versions of the iOS have come up.
